It's always good decide to learn a new language, and in your case it's a good option, it's a tough language but is very dynamic. between us, portuguese people, we commit very mistakes but it's very funny because we invent words just to express ourselves. we think in a word and BAAM! it's done, and everyone understand us.
The is one reason it's so difficult, not to learn but understand the natives.
I have a Ukrainian friend that said to me "I learned how to speak portuguese in a school but with you it's like I'm learning all again". And I said that in school he learned "portuguese language" but with people he learn how to be a "Tuga" and talk like us :)
