Can someone clarify why these coins are listed as "Elf" I see nothing on the coin suggesting that word to be used. So it is slightly confusing to me. Thanks

There are other countries on that page - Great Britain, New Guinea, Straits Settlements, etc.
Maybe someone mis-read Extra Fine grade as e/f and thought it said elf  8.

I probably think last post'er is right. Wow I didn't know people were that ignorant to coin terms. Guess Numismatic literacy is rare outside of the people who define them selves numismaticians.

Here I was hoping first post'er was right, $$$ used by Elves!!!!

Though I see those (in that list I put in my earlier reply) that do have elf in the title are from the same seller, who has elf in his eBay name, so maybe that's it.  :.

AAH, that may be it as well! Never thought of that, a way for him to add a tag to his items! gotcha! lol. Thanks! Idk why I didn't think of these things.

Yeah, I noticed that, his username is elfreeman so I'm assuming that's E. L. Freeman so "elf" would be his initials.
I've seen "elf" coins before, it's the seller's tag.

Yes that is right, it is put by sellers so their frequent customers would identify their coins/items. There are plenty of well known dealers who do this, example, Lanz, Katz, ets etc.

Off-topic, but that thread brought up a question for me.

Does anyone know any coins with mythological creatures on them. Such as elves, trolls, witches (and i don't mean any particular monarch;)) or other stuff.
Theres probably some commemorative stuff out there, but is there any circulating coins?

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.

The first coins in my mind are the Greece coins with Pegasus  https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces558.html
and also the 20 Drachmai of the same series I think has Pegasus. However must be plenty more I think.

While this Albanian coin  https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces11174.html   has Hercules wrestling the Nemean Lion. I think those are mythological enough :)

I wish I read the thread before posting a reply.
Yea, they are mythological enough. Thanks. Interesting indeed. I should look more into these kinds.

Thanks BizzoDoes also.

The mythological Garuda bird appears on some Thailand coins, and on the back of some Iceland coins are four spirits. Examples ...

Then, not part of the original coin design of course, but I remember from a while ago that someone had made a UK 7-sided 50 Pence coin into a necklace with a witch on it ...

made by using a saw and cutting out parts of the coin and recarving other parts of the design. Also on that page is a pixie riding on the back of a raven; made from recycled Victorian silver coins.
