Nepal, 4 paisa, 1955 - I have been looking for one of these ever since I heard that they were struck out of single whole bullet cartridges. Finally it arrived in the mail from Kathmandu
That's really nice! I really love coins that have some sort of history behind them, like the Vietnamese coins from the '70's with the description "Rebel Communist State"!

Quote: JesseRibeiroFor Somalia Set what the catalogue price??
hello,
dont remember but I guess $10-12.
but catalogue price is not indication for this set. I collect african coins 15 years, and saw this complete set first time. Also, catalogue price is usually same for years, so I think it was $10 in 1980, and now its $10 as well

congratulations! consider that someone presented you this set !!!
I think it can be interesting to see which coins we are buying or got as present.
For example, this is absolutely fantastic 25 euro from Austria, which I bought for my euro-collection.
Very interesting color in real (green with blue)
Do you like this?
And one year later, my new item
and this coin joined to my collection and now have new family =)
And Tunisian 10 dinars 2008 ( unlisted in catalog) " 50 years of Bank " , Caboverdian 200$ ( entrance to VTO ) with some nice african casino tokens ( Botswana, Mauritius, Egypt ) from my old froend from Vienna - Wolfgang.
Quote: Lotus07Those are some nice coins, Dato! Are you almost complete with your African coins collection, or do you still need a ton of coins?
:) I need a lot of coins of course. Main of them are listed in my profile info. ( end of 19th - 20 century) . But a lot of 20th century African countries are completed, so Im too proud of it

Thanks sujit! What is interesting about the Parthian coin is that it was from the Money Museum in Zurich. Apparently, they decided to lighten their load and hence sold several coins including this Parthian coin. Glad it is now in my collection . This is one of about four or five coins I picked up that were former Money Museum coins...

Well, I added an additional coin to my Third Reich collection. I bought several coins over the past two weeks, but it needs to be researched and cataloged before I can post it , so I figured I should start off with the easy one:
Germany, Third Reich: 1937E 5 Reichspfennig, Muldenhutten Mint (KM#91)
Obv: Eagle above swastika within wreath
Rev: Denomination, oak leaves below
Speaking of the Third Reich! When I found this token in a mixed bucket of foreign coins, I thought "this looks really cool, but I'll never identify it". But, surprisingly, googling "W St B 1938" told me exactly what it is. It's a token for the tramway in Vienna, issued after the Anschluss (so its value is 10 reichpfennig). Amazing how the fascists were even able to make a wheel with wings look terrifying.
Roman Imperial: Licinius I (308-324) Æ follis, Cyzicus (RIC VII-9)
Obv: IMP LICI-NIVS AVG; laureate and cuirassed bust left, holding mappa and scepter.
Rev: IOVI CONS-ERVATORI AVCC; Jupiter standing facing, head left, holding Victory on globe and sceptre; in left field, wreath; in right field, E; SMK in exergue.
Roman Imperial: Maximinus I (235-238) AR denarius, Rome (RIC IV-2; Cohen-55)
Obv: IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG; laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right.
Rev: P M TR P II COS P P; emperor, in military dress, standing left between two standards, holding spear.
Roman Imperial: Probus (276-282) BI Antoninianus, Rome (RIC-175; Cohen-305)
Obv: PROBV-S P F AVG; radiate, cuirassed bust to right.
Rev: IOVI CON-S PROB AVG; Jupiter standing left, wearing chlamys over left shoulder, holding thunderbolt and scepter; R thunderbolt B in exegue.
A dear friend of mine give me recently a bunch of coins, tokens and banknotes from Mozambique, Colombia, Venezuela, Philippines, UK, Canada, Malaya, Costa Rica,
Tunisia, Netherlands, Denmark, Egypt, France, Japan, Germany and Chile. Most of them between 1940-1950
I bought this Maria Theresa 1780 silver thaler on eBay not so long ago.
Rather worn, especially on the obverse side (MT is almost featureless!), but I actually like coins that are toned and somewhat circulated. Adds character...and cheaper, too! Lol
Pretty sure the coin is legit, and from what I can determine, it looks to have been minted in Milan circa 1815-28, so a relatively early restrike of this popular trading coin.
Here's another recent eBay purchase, a 1755 Madonnen silver thaler from Bavaria. Again, rather worn, but I think it's beautiful. Love the gentle toning. :)
I have gone on a bit of a buying spree over the weekend
Gothic Florin
all half crowns to fill this page to complete the run so I have 1920-1967 complete apart from the non existent 1952 (only 2 known of and valued at £30.000, bit out of my price range ), next will be completing 1887-1919 (already have 1887, 1898,1899, 1901, 1906 and 1908)
Bought a small job lot of coins for just over £5 and found these in there.
I almost sold them on without researching, glad I looked on NGC and realised the dates have some value, way more than what I paid.
so not a bad weekends worth.

1 I bought (at nearly face value) this lovely UK £2 coin from last year.
2 However, the sender obviously does not regularly sell coins, as it has been taped across.
3 The envelope it came in has a Morecambe and Wise stamp on it!

No doubt at some time I will find the same (Trinity House, in charge of coastal lighthouses) coin in pocket change, but at least now I have one. Rather than add to an old topic somewhere on here, just to point out to newer members what not to do to coins being posted. Then maybe known only to UK members but Morecambe and Wise were among the top comedy acts; I did not know they were bringing out stamps like that (I now found a link for the series, issued by the Post Office).
Yesterday afternoon, I picked up a 1939 penny from Australia and a 1951 penny from New Zealand. Both really nice and barely used, if at all. Also just in time for Anzac Day (today, April 25), although my purchase was coincidental!
I got this coins 2 weeks ago but I have been busy to post or arrange them.
I don't know how many of you collect this type of set, but at my local shop is widely available, (My mom bought me this one on ebay)
Also from Ebay
Ebay too...
This were my birthday present including a 3rd Reich coin that arrived late and she was not able to bring on this trip...
A nice 5 Mark coin minted in 1901 for Hamburg. Very nice definition and toning, with just a couple of minor dings to the edge/rim. Excuse the slightly fuzzy pic!
I bought this silver and gold coin yesterday.
Pictures from the seller - will replace them on this topic when coin arrives ... https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces20588.html

Look well the Canadian 10 cents... Doesn't it seem strange?
