Ancient coin

9 posts
I am an old man(76), and I have begun to arrange and catalogize my coins what I have collected during the last 50 years. Unfortunately I have an ancient coin which I could'nt identify in spite of that I do what I could. Please help me (if it is possible) to identify this coin.
I suppose this is a roman coin from 130-160 a.d. under the dominion of Antoninus Pius (or greek?). But it is only a supposal, and I'm not sure at all. The photos of the coin attached hereto. The diameter of the coin are 23mm, the thickness 4mm.

I thank you very much for helping me.

Hi

This is an ancient roman coin. Its value is in numista, right here. You may check it out with the picture search if you're struggling to read after such an old age. I'm glad that I could solve the very first post on numista.com . Thanks!

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. An Numista image search will not find the coin nor will it give an exact value. The reverse is in my opinion Moneta seated left, holding scales and cornucopia however I can't read the emperor's name. Hopefully someone will recognize the emperor and solve it.

I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.

This is a tetradrachm of Antoninus Pius, from Alexandria in Egypt.   The reverse is indeed Moneta although for an issue with Greek legends like this the convention is to use the name of the Greek equivalent, Dikaiosyne, and on some issues she is named as such.

No. Bots on Numista do not enter over 200 items in their collection before making their first post. Just a well meaning member trying their best to answer.

I apologise then, I had never seen a response like it before.

As a follow-up, the text on the reverse was bugging me a little.  For the most part on Alexandrian tetradrachms the reverse only give the regnal year, sometimes just in numerals, sometimes spelling out the full word.  This one looks to have a year in numerals and some sort of additional legend- but I can't find any such tetradrachm.    So I'm having to conclude that maybe what appears to be an illegible legend is just an artifact of wear + photography, and if so it would seem to be this type below, for L IS = Year 16.

These are 3 very recent new members that in my opinion are bots. Check their profiles and posts. So far none have crossed the line.
