was this curious item, presumably a United Kingdom coin as it resembles the pennies of the time.

I firstly assumed it was one of those pennies which at some time had four sides ground down to make a round-edged diamond shape. Not a square shape, as the area below Britannia on the reverse is in one of the corners. Though it is designed to be diamond shape as the borders also match the edges, and are in line with them, and are 3mm across. Obverse has a male portrait facing right.

Not much can be seen of the remaining lettering;
first image may be EOR on obverse left corner
second image may be G RE on obverse right corner
third image I think is top parts of 1797 date
All above are night-time pictures taken just now; maybe better ones can be made tomorrow.
Size: 34mm (across flats)
Size: 36mm (across corners)
Thickness: 3mm
Weight: unknown - I have no scales
Does anyone know what it is? Thanks !
