I was at a garage sale in my area last week, and I came across a box. I opened it, and voila, I found lots silver crowns and half-crowns from 1800-2010. All genuine, mostly in good condition, and with minimal toning. I also fond some other coins, banknotes from 1934-1955, and some Empire and Commonwealth stamps. Oh, and a WWII Medal from 1945, complete with blue ribbon, pin and clasp. And all for £125! Bargain of a lifetime?

Wow! I hope they're all real!
Great find, That's what you call, being in the right place at the right time.
It is, what it is, or is it.
Yeah, that's probably an once-in-a-lifetime bargain. If they're all real, you actually paid for the two-three first coins, and the rest of items you got for free. Lucky you, congrats :)
Grosz do grosza i będzie kokosza.
Very nice, I'm jealous.  I picked up a bulk lot recently, I haven't got it yet but I noticed a copy of this token sitting amongst the pile in the picture

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27267.html

Interested to see what else is in it.  I only paid NZ 50c per coin (about 25p per coin) so I'll definitely get my money's worth.
Very jealous indeed. I'm hoping I get something like this soon too!
I cant believe it.
I was at a window sale in charity shop. Was there good few hours before the shop opened, i was fourth in a queue and fortunately there was noone in front of me who wanted the coins. Some people behind me grabbed the copper lots and all so i only got 2 bags of coins. Very small bags... like 30 small coins in one bag, various countries and 20 big coppery, silvery looking coins in other bag. Paid €5 for first bag and €9 for second bag.

And i still cant believe what i found. The rest of coins i haven't made much note of yet, because they are nothing special, just random world coins.

But these two i absolutely love:
The €9 euro bag contained that:

And the €5 euro bag contained that:

1902

Seriously, i never thought that myself can have such luck.
Reading the stories here im always like, yea, right, where on earth i could ever find something really cool, like nowhere..

And that was my FIRST EVER random coin buy:)
Im so happy:)

(and yes, i checked, they are real:))
Seems almost too good to be true, let's see some photos :8D
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

A stamp! I think I have one...
Ohh.. I was just skimming through the list and was expecting coins haha

Sorry, but this is all that I can master with my phone. I think it is only 2 megapixels.

Yea, it seems too good to be true to me too. Still. I keep checking them to be sure I didn't imagine it :) lol.
Wow both great finds.

  Brittania, we need photos
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
We need scans Kartway! Come on! The suspense!
Hmm, I don't have a normal scanner. I can use some old crap Canon at work tho. Never scanned a coin before; doesn't background stay ugly dark? Do I just place coins on it and scan? I try on Tuesday night at work. If I'm successful u see pic on Wednesday. :)
OK some more I forgot to mention as I was typing this at work.
1939 George VI Dollar Royal Visit,
1973 Juliana Netherlands Silver Jubilee 10 Guilder
1870 Leopold II Belgium 5 Francs
and my biggest bargain of all.....
I bought this seperately, and it was at a coin shop. I bought a 1863 Swiss shooting thaler in EF-Xf condition, for only £35! It's worth around £ 250! Having a mintage of only 6,000, it's my rarest coin yet!

It's real - weight, diameter, legend, details, sheen, ring, it passed every test
It came with a nice dark partial patina too!
We still want pictures...please!
pls update OP 8)

There are some fairly rare stamps in there, I'm looking at ones from Natal and Lagos.

I am such a bloody noobie...
I tried scanning like 10 times, the only thing it let me to change was resolution, but I don't think anything changed actually on scanned pictures changing that.

How do you all get huge pics of scans like that? I only got this sort whatever I did:

Can you make it bigger somehow like other normal peoples pictures? Maybe it's just crap scanner, it looks bloody old (it's at my work), I didn't find anything to change before scanning to get small magnified pics.
I'm such a noobie...  :snif:

Please send me PM about how you did it, I would be very grateful. Then finally I can upload a few coins that I don't know what they are and ask about them too...

Just did a quick edit.  I've sent you a PM.
Tweaked them a little more by removing some of the background space.

Who's willing to bet that Brittania's post was fake?
A six year Numista absence makes the heart grow fonder... ?
I'm just thinking to what benefit did Brittania do this? It can't all have been a lie?

I really don't know... but I think I'm done wasting my time trying to figure her out. She's gone now, anyway, so it means nothing to backtrack and play the suspicion game.

Find #1: I went to a relative's house for the day and they found a small purse while cleaning up. We found the following inside the purse:
Hong Kong (Japanese Occupation)
- 1 sen (1940)
- 10 sen (1940)
- 5 yen (1938)
- 10 yen (1938) x2

British Hong Kong
- $1 (HSBC, Jun. 1935)
- $1 (George VI, 1939)
- $5 (HSBC, Oct. 1930)
- $5 (HSBC, Jul. 1937)
- $5 (Chartered Bank, 1970-75)
- couple HSBC $5 notes from 1973 and 1975 (can't remember the exact number)

Other Countries
- Thai banknotes, 1980s (can't remember the denomination or amount)
My relatives eventually gave me all the Hong Kong notes (for free!)

Find #2: I was at a mall two or three years ago and spotted a Hong Kong 10 cent coin from 1950 inside a charity box near the checkout counter. I remember thinking, "This coin. Was in circulation. For close to 70 years!"
Of course, since the box was locked and *ahem!* for charity purposes, I didn't get it. But it was a surprise to be sure.
