When coin shops misidentify...

4 posts
Always makes me smile a little when I see coins identified wrong in a coin shop.  For instance, today I picked up:

1889 UK Victoria Maundy 3 pence (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5838.html) that was thrown in with the small size Canadian 5 cent pieces (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces416.html).

And

1943D Australian sixpence (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5321.html) marked as a UK sixpence (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1125.html)

I get how they can be confused, but it still makes me chuckle.

Agreed. Or Italian coins labelled as Swiss coins on eBaY! Hilarious.
Any unknown coins on eBaY, are funny too!

I managed to pick up on eBay a German shilling (Hamburg) someone mislabeled as a Zurich 1 shilling.

I have found a silver Mexico N$20 coin that the gold-buying store owner outright said - That is not silver! You think I am not an expert?

It was the Hidalgo type... .2500oz of silver for $2 (8
