Hi
I have been given a coin in exchange for money owed to me.
If anyone can help identify and give me idea of value I would greatly appreciate it.
I was told that coin is in mint? condition ?
It was in a plastic cover and weighed 30.8 grams - is this right and real ?
I was told that the value is higher if not removed from cover.
Please see pics and any comments would be appreciated.
Battling to upload pics. So I will try to describe:
Gold coin ILHAS CANA'RIAS REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA 1479 1336 1989
s.machhdo inscribed on side of picture of ship seemingly approaching a monster (giant squid).
Any advice will be appreciated
Kind Regards
Niekie

Are you referring to either of these two coins? The first one is a silver coin, which is of proof quality.
The second one is essentially the same coin as the first one, except that it is made of cupronickel (Cu-Ni).
I tried checking up your coin on the internet, but there is no such coin made of gold, only the two listed above.

Hi to Mr Glorkar
Thank you for your advise, the previous person obviously mistook my question as to one single coin as opposed to two.
Your information has been most helpful.
I will try and upload image as soon as I can figure out how to minimize mb of image
I have noticed that there is no image available.
Once again thank you for your input.
One more question ?
How much do these plastic covers weigh?
And should I remove coin from cover or leave sealed intact?
Kind regards
Niekie

I would take the coin to a reputed dealer to check. It's either gold in which case it's very expensive or a replica worth nothing.

It might be the light, but (no offense), it doesn't look like gold...
especially with proof/prooflike coins, it's harder to tell.
and, I'm not a expert in this, just a opinion.
