Attempting to Identify Single Coin

5 posts
Hello Everyone!

I have a very small coin collection that I have been reviewing.  Most have been easily identifiable, however, I have one that has been impossible for me to identify!

It's a small copper colored coin, approximately 18mm diameter.  The front has a man facing to the left wearing a hat of sorts with a slight beard.  The back bears an odd lion statue that is holding a staff/flag.  There are no English-based markings.  There are 5 'symbols'/letters under the man that I cannot identify.  Those are the only other markings other than the two images.

I have searched everywhere I can think of, but I have had no luck in identifying it.  I would add a photo, but my camera had decided to stop working!   8~

Any opinions or information you could lend would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Elizabeth, welcome to Numista!

Try searching "Ethiopia" on the search box, and look for your coin by scrolling thru the pages

My guess would be after World War 2, can't confirm.

Good luck!

Actually, it could be one of the earlier coins as well... but look at the pictures and match 'em up!

Thanks guys for your quick replies!  Neilithic, thank you especially, that's it exactly!  I tried searching with every 'key word' I could think of!  I really appreciate that!

That just made my day!
