Do you prioritise your collections?

I have a few collections that overlap and I'm thinking I may have to start prioritising them. For instance, I have a collection of Pacific coins, and a collection of coins made with unusual metals (zinc, tin, aluminium). So if I get an aluminium Pacific coin I have to decide which collection it goes in. Obviously I'd like to have a copy for each collection but that's not always possible. I also have to prioritise which collection I want to buy coins for. At the moment my collections are:

Silver coins
Pacific coins
Unusual metal coins
Caribbean coins
Vatican and San Marino coins
and "other"

Anyone else collect like this, or does everyone else collect by country?
I would just go by country. Although I am starting to collect FAO/ world food day coins but only within the commonwealth so they stay in their respective countries.
I prioritize Romanian coins, but I don't keep them separately from the rest.
To me it would make sense to have one single collection in which one would focus on, for example, unusual metals or FAO or whatever one find more interesting. Then that part of the collection would grow faster than the rest with no worry that collections overlap.
I collect by country, so no overlapping occurs to me (although I may re-arrange coins later, say, gold and silver separate).
For me the country is secondary.  If I get a silver or zinc coin, it goes into the silver or zinc collection.

Oh, no definitely in order of country, especially since in not collecting all FAO coins, although it's more than likely I will remove all Commonwealth coins when I have more albums and have individual ones for Imperial too !..
I do by continent.

Looks like I've just got an odd way of collecting.  I do have multiple copies of some coins, like the Fijian silver.  1 of each KM# for my silver collection and one of each date and KM# for my Pacific collection.

Not really sure why do you consider aluminum being an unusual metal for coins. It's pretty common for the low denominations.
Perhaps I should have said strange rather than unusual.  It's reasonably commonly used, but it's strange that it's chosen as a metal for coins because it is so light and wears out so fast unlike cu-ni, ni, etc.  Similarly it's strange that iron, tin and zinc are used becuase they corrode so badly.  Basically I like collecting the ugly ducklings.
My current priorities are:
China-Empire (Just starting out)

United States

United Kingdom

You're welcome.  :D

Just kidding. If you need any steps through adding more Chinese coins to your collections, drop a line and I'll help you out.

I collect years.  No overlap there.
I try to collect Country > Year > Denomination. But it gets thrown out every time I add coins, so most of them are not in order. I try to organize them every once in a while but that so tedious.

I collect by country. I always arranged it like Numista do. I mean it's like when you click the tab 'Your coins'. And it's easier to search if I need to find them.
I used to keep silver coins in a different binder, but I recently changed to method because I was buying duplicates. I organize by country, then denomination. Mostly like Numista or the Krause catalogs do. Just because once you get over 1,000 coins it starts getting complicated keeping them in order.

My original reason for keeping the silver coins separate is because I had a small collection and my silver ones were more valuable. It was easier to store one binder in a safe place. But now I have some high value base metal coins, and a bunch of low value silver coins, so it doesn't make much sense any more.
I just realised that I didn't want to collect everything. Some of the modern coins really just aren't worth the flip and place in my collection. So I've picked the areas that I really like i.e. Pacific, Caribbean, Vatican, and San Marino. I like these ones because they are relatively cheap to collect, they're usually readily available, they have interesting designs and usually have nice low mintages, unlike the untold billions that are available if you collect something like US pennies.

I also love silver so I have a separate collection for them, and as I said I like the ugly ducklings: tin, zinc, iron and aluminium so I have a collection of those. The "other" collection is the rest of the world coins.  Mostly it's pre-World War 2 coins but there are also others that I like the design and want to keep.

Now if I can just work out if my zinc-clad iron German coins should go in the zinc collection or the iron collection.
Well, I've always tried to prioritise my coin collection.
I like to collect anything of the British Empire, USA, Pre-1950's Germany/Prussia, the Dutch Antilles, and the Dutch East Indies.  After I get what I want from these countries I think I will move on to French Indochina.
I keep my coins in 2x2 holders in rowboxes as a single collection. I pull them out as I need to for exhibits and what not. I have my likes but I rarely say no to a coin I don't have if it's a reasonable acquisition.

I have two separate collections:

Top priority: San Marino collection

Low priority: World coins collection
ROMA AETERNA
I collect by KM number and organize them that way too. I have my collection in 2x2 holders in boxes. Of course by country first and then KM number.
I collect by country and year focusing more circulating issues and store them in the double row boxes in 2x2s. I prefer the envelopes to the flips because it allows me more access to the coin and plenty of room to write information about the coin. I usually will focus on certain countries/regions, but really just collect everything. Caribbean (Bahamas, Bermuda, Belize, Barbados, East Caribbean, Cayman Islands, Aruba, Neth. Antilles, Cuba), Germany, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Czech Rep., and Iraq tend to be my main focus when swapping or buying coins at a show. But I can easily get carried away with other countries. When swapping with someone from another country I always try to pick half my selections from that country.
I have it easy, having collection of Europe coins from all ages.

Coins only, no tokens, stamps, banknotes, postcards, toys, or other stuff. When I get other stuff I'll sell it to buy coins.....and maybe a gun.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Priorities' my collection, how would that make any cents. Here a penny for my thoughts. Any and 1 cent or pennys , and lowest value coins. They are all going out of service. Then I have a few country's I collect , but really anything 20th century up. But will take anything. But everything is getting a bit out of control . Iam just around 10,000 coins now. Over 250 countries. But main countrys are UK, really anything with QEII on it, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Iceland, Yugoslavia, and few others. Iam happy to say my UK collection is now over 700 coins.
I wonder how many coins I have with QEII on them. She the only person I can think of who is on both pennies and 1 cent coins.
It is, what it is, or is it.
