Is this set official? (Finland 1964)

Dear Collectors!

Does anyone here know any information about the 1964 set from Finland?

It is not listed in SCWC, and I've only seen it three times (while actively searching for it). Pictures of one of them you can see above. (Found it for sale on the internet, so those pictures are not mine)

It is also listed on worthpoint:

The only information written there is that it is supposedly issued by the Bank of Finland, however I was not able to verify that.

I wrote emails to the Bank of Finland and Helsinki Mint, but haven't received any reply from them.

I also found this document, but unfortunately I am not able to read it, because I don't know Swedish:

The set itself is quite rare considering how rarely it comes up. And from those pictures looks official, because it has Coat of Arms of the bank and has a similar style as other sets from the 60's. However, before purchasing/adding it to the catalog, I wanted to verify that.

Is the case yellow, it looks like? If yes, that set is mentioned on our coin catalogues but we don't know how many of them have been made. The value in mint state is apprx. 100 eur or so, but there is no transactions made, so that value is more like indicative.

Also, the “Helsinki mint” is not the Finnish mint that made these coins or sets.  It is just a commercial venture from the Netherlands I think. The Finnish Mint went bankrupt recently.

No, it did not went bankrupt. The Mint of Finland ceased operations as unprofitable. The Mint of Finland was owned by the Finnish state.

Details. But the current “Helsinki mint” is not the same as our good old Rahapaja.

Thank you! I suppose it is official then, so I will add it to the Numista. What catalog is it mentioned in?

Yes, it seems to be yellow/yellowish, but not as strongly yellow as one of the examples from worthpoint. That might be because of lighting. Has it ever been seen on eBay or some Finnish/other Scandinavian websites or auctions for sale? Because the set pictures of which I posted here is selling now for about 35 euro, but I am hesitant to buy because of the condition of the box.

I didn't know that. But indeed Helsinki Mint is a brand of RDM. How did it happen that RDM replaced Mint of Finland?

That must be a very expensive package, because the coins are not.

Some people collect sets specifically…

I just received a reply from the Bank of Finland:

I received your enquiry from our archives. As for the coin set of 1964 in a white presentation case: it is not an official mint set and was not intended for retail sale, but an example of a gift which the Bank of Finland occasionally prepared and presented to foreign guests visiting the Bank.

Hope this helps.

So in fact it is official (since it was assembled by the Bank of Finland), and being a presentation set explains why it is so rare.

I am not sure why they don't consider it official. At least for Numista it counts as one
