I have looked on the internet and have not found any aluminum. I'm only finding 1992 brass versions. Is it real? Rare? ***Update. It weighs .88 grams***

Hello, welcome aboard 🙂

Is it your coin ? what's the weight, diameter and width ?

I have looked on the internet and have not found any aluminum.

 I found this

https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/azerbaijan-5-qapik-km-1a-1993-cuid-1041521-duid-1214767

 That brass coin is

N#8843

So brass is KM# 1 and aluminium is KM# 1a reference.

Thank you! I don't have a weight scale, but it's 1.8 mm thick and 17mm in diameter.

What you're showing is a 1993. I have a 1992, but it doesn't show that year on the site.

You are showing only a 1993, but I have a 1992. Don't they usually show all the years? That's why I am questioning this coin. I searched and haven't seen a 1992 aluminum version.

New

My bad, I was only paying attention at the “aluminium” part, not at the date. And yes, they show all the years. Also in Schön they give the aluminium coin only for 1993. So you have a strange coin. And no answers.

Yes, I thought it was strange also. Thanks for the help!

Interesting that the 10, 20 and 50 Qapiks all have a 1992 aluminum version.

Yea. Maybe a misprint? A fake? Not sure why people would fake it, but never know lol. I work for a hotel and had a fake $5 bill (USD), so I guess anything can happen. Where do you get your info from?

It would be highly unusual for both SCWC and Schön to be wrong.

I doubt it's a fake.  Here's a page for the sale of a 1992 Aluminum one (although the picture looks like a brass one and the weight is the same as the brass one but says it's KM 1a).

Here's a site that only shows 1993 for the aluminum one: https://currencies.fandom.com/wiki/Azerbaijani_5_qapik_coin

Oh ok. Yea, when I get coins, I use this site to look them up first. Then I did a Google search, and nothing came up.

Very interesting piece! Maybe struck on a wrong planchet, or with wrong dies?

I recommend you to ask on a Russian forum. People there are more likely to know more about this topic.

Thank you! Will do. I went to a coin dealer shop in my town, and he couldn't figure it out.

Weight is important to know if it was struck with the same material as the 1993 coin.

Yes, I know it is. I should buy one now that I have a decent-sized collection. Thanks!

No one has asked this yet. What makes you think it is aluminum? Just the color?

Is one of these aluminum and one brass?

I mean, it looks and feels like aluminum. Take a look at the pic I put up. I am in the process of buying a coin scale so I can weigh it. Is the one on the left brass, too?

New

It definitely looks like aluminium, since those roller marks are common on coins made of this metal:

Do you have the brass piece so you can feel the weight difference in-hand compared to yours?

I assume so since it was included with other pictures of brass coins.  The difference in weight should be obvious.

I do not have it in brass. When I get the scale in, I will find out the weight. I would have asked my local coin dealer, but he's closed until Wednesday, and by then, I should have my scale. I should have asked him when he was looking at it.

Yes. I've ordered my scale, so it'll be in by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks! It does at times fall to .87, but .88 seems to stay steady. It is an interesting piece that I have so far. I still have a bunch of other coins and banknotes to go through.

You might request the addition of the date 1992 in the Numista file.

When it exists, it exists :)

I think it is better to first ask on the forum I sent link to, in case it is an error. Or a trial strike. Because Numista does not list errors, and if it is a trial strike, it should have a separate page (I think)

As I was registering for that site, it asked me, “Country from the name of this forum ”.  I'm stuck. I have tried Russia, CCCP, Soviet Union, USSR. I can't finish registering. Do you know the answer?

Strange. I did CCCP and it didn't work the first time, but now it works. Thanks again!

Did you write it with latin or cyrillic letters? Because while C and P look the same to human eye in both, computers distinguish them.
