What a grump!

I want to know how I can accurately determine the condition of paper and metal currency.

Start here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coin_grading

For US coins this website is very useful:

https://www.pcgs.com/photograde

A little more info here:

https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/grading-scale/

And here:

https://blog.money.org/coin-collecting/coin-grading-basics

Come back and ask more questions when you're ready.

Thank you so much for your help, but Thank you so much for your help, but is there a…Thank you so much for your help, but is there anything for banknotes? I'm new to coin collecting and I especially enjoy collecting banknotes, but I don't know how to assess their condition.

Here https://www.pmgnotes.com/paper-money-grading/grading-scale/

and here https://www.pcgs.com/banknote/grades

for starters.

Thank you, guys

That’s exactly what I did to learn how to grade my coins, but it’s a bit too technical for you

Bugger off to the pub you nasty old grump.

TCon, I have noticed that with adversarial or confrontational posts, your are often at the center.

But on the other hand, you seem very willing to help out with general inquiries.

“Bugger off to the pub” is a bit over the top don't you think? Especially as Offa's post came from good intentions and personal experience?

This is a community forum, and mutual respect is essential for it to work.

Hi Spaulding,

I've had words with offa before and he's given me *** too, albeit undeservedly, thus my harsh words to him. Offa's comments to OP here were sarcastic and rude, as is his MO. He's a bully and I'm always first in line to stand up to a bully like him.

OP is from Egypt and, unless he lives in Zamalek or maybe Alexandria, I sincerely doubt he can run down to a bookstore and buy a coin grading book, nor can he order one from Amazon. (I've been to Egypt and I know how hard it is to find books in most places.)

Anyway, it took me 30 seconds to copy and paste a handful of links from my bookmarks, and I hope they help OP learn the hobby. It probably took Offa the same 30 seconds to tell OP to run down to the store and buy a book like he lives in 1960s England.

PS: I've been here 7+ years with 800+ posts. You may have seen a dozen or so threads where I confronted another member, but always in reply to their comments, never was I the instigator.

Thank you, TCon. I really appreciate your support, and I understand your point. You were very kind to help me. I just don't want any problems between anyone because of my question. We're all here to learn and share our knowledge. I hope everything is okay between everyone.

Well said, TCon is the bully here. Offa did nothing wrong, but TCon holds grudges and will wait to pounce at any opportunity, despite TCons reply justifying his/her rudeness, it was not justified and the stated explanation is rubbish. The previous thread in question TCon goaded Offa into the remarks, here was nothing more than a revenge shot! TCon pushes a narrative far different from reality, and if TCon had linked the thread in question, it would be available for all to read and see the truth.

In the top right of each post is a little button to report the comments in a thread, please make the admins aware, the more reports, the more likely they will take action.

„If your reply or post in the Forum stinks of AI, I will call you out! Knowledge comes from experience, the I in AI stands for incompetence.“

I've been on Numista now about a year, and have learned a great deal through this forum. Like Mohamed Khaled 0, I truly appreciate the contributions of everyone, including TCon.

Rodney King asked after the 1992 LA riots: “Can't we all get along?”

King.

Well said, TCon is the bully here.

Yawn.

There's obviously histories, slights, animosities, and maybe even vendetta's here. I haven't the slightest interest in who's right or wrong. Please keep focus on the primary reason for this forum.

I was being neither rude or disrespectful, I learned how to grade my coins by buying a book and following the steps to identify which grade the coin is. T con has a history of being antagonistic and obtuse but take no notice of him none of us do.

How is this helpful to anyone: “Buy a book about how to grade your coins” ??

Could you at least suggest a particular book? Maybe something on your bookshelf or a book you used when you were a novice collector?

Your answer had neither substance nor merit. Zero effort on your part. Why waste your time typing those words?

PS: you seem not to understand the meaning of “obtuse;” you may wish to buy a book and learn… a dictionary would suffice.

Gentlemen,

Let's say that everything has been said about this issue.

I lock the thread.
