I recently was given this coin:

When I looked closer at it, I saw writing under the truncation of George’s neck, and saw that the horse and rider were very skinny.  This coin is fake, right?

Right!

The coin weighs 7.66 grams, whereas the real one weighs 7.99 grams. This means it’s not gold either, right?

The weight itself doesn't prove it's not gold but logic says it's not.

How  do I prove that it’s not gold?

Either measure the density https://en.numista.com/numisdoc/determining-the-metal-of-a-coin-27.html or take it to a coin or jewelry store where they can determine the composition. I would be extremely surprised it it were gold.

Took it to a shop- they say it’s real.
Here’s the scan:

A real gold plated fake?

No, they said it was the real deal- a 22 karat coin.

Good for you! A solid gold fake!

Then there is the really bad nose job, small font, etc..

Interesting that it's a gold fake. .. hard to make much money that way (third of a gram doesn't save much)

They said it was a real sovereign, but it clearly isn’t.
