Not sure where to send a recommendation, so I will start here.

If it goes somewhere else, please ping me and I will made correction accordingly.

For the 1834 $5 Classic Head the varieties are listed as follows:

Undetermined
1834 - PCGS#8171 - plain 4
1834 - PCGS#8172 - crosslet 4
1834 - PCGS# - proof; plain 4
1835 - #8173 - Varieties have either script 8 or block style 8 in date
1835 - PCGS#45298 - proof
1836 - PCGS# 8174
1836 - PCGS#8182-proof
1837 - PCGS#8175 - Varieties have either script 8 or block style 8 in date
1838 - PCGS#8176
1838C - PCGS#8177
1838D - PCGS#8178

I would recommend adding the following, as it is a fairly common variety as listed in United States Classic Gold Coins of 1834-1839 by Daryl J. Haynor -

1834 CLASSIC $5 SCRIPT 8 PLAIN 4 HM-3

Perhaps my suggestion was not very well thought out.

Given some of the comments by those more knowledgeable than me, I will not be making any edits to this entry.

You can edit the page yourself, sending a modification request with the new year line and the sources.

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

What the difference between the plain 4 already in Numista and the script 8 plain 4? They look the same to me.

If this one minor variety is added why shouldn't all 9 of the 1834 minor varieties that NGC lists be added also? And the 8 1835's and the 9 1836's…be added also?  Regardless, any variety that is added needs information as to how to tell them from all the other varieties.  Adding new year lines for all these minor varieties just creates confusion without guidance to distinguish one from another.  My opinion is they all fall under the major “plain 4” variety.

@Sjoelund @cncote10

I’d rather not have 30 varieties listed unless we can be very clear on how to differentiate… it’s one thing if it’s been PCGS graded and you know for sure… I have this problem personally in other areas of the catalog and I don’t want to import tha here…

I agree with cnote's statement. BTW, there are differences, specially in the 4 (on the hypotenuse of the four)
