There are two different designs. A and B. The year is placed differently. Of my 10 coins, only 2 were design B. So it seems that B is a little rarer. It seems to me that the difference is large enough that a catalog could distinguish between both the A and B versions.

They are Leningrad and Moscow mint coins. Similar differences exist in most Soviet coins from about 1985 to 1990. Your A is Leningrad, B is Moscow. Both are  common.

Numista does not track all variations reported by Fedorin. Both 1988 variants were valued below 4 USD in 2004.
