Hello, I wanted to see a direct source to make sure that the 1974 Commonwealth Games Proof Dollar from New Zealand is indeed silver, just so if I ever sell it I know I am selling a silver coin. I ask because New Zealand had copper-nickel proofs at the same time, and it's odd that a silver proof dollar appeared in the 1974 proof set when previous and subsequent years had them minted in copper-nickel. If for some reason official mint reports contradict the notion that the coin is silver, I would like to know before I decide to sell to avoid ripping someone off.

I was looking moreso for the official mint report from the Royal Australian Mint. I understand NGC uses Krause, which is prone to having mistakes in its catalogue. The report from the mint would be a more reliable source from my point of view. I tried accessing the 1974 Royal Australian Mint report from the Australian library online, but it kept giving me errors. I was hoping someone would have access to that primary source.

I know this seems like an obvious answer, but I just find it weird that New Zealand would shift to a silver dollar and then continue to mint proof dollars in copper-nickel. Having clarification from a primary source, like the mint itself, would be nice.

1974 NZ day 1$ proof was CuNi but Commonwealth Games 1$ proof was only silver (km#44a) according Bertrand catalogue of New Zealand coins (2024 edition):

I'll just defer to that and assume it is silver. Thank you very much for this!

Not sure what that catalog is but there were definitely Cu-Ni version of the coin.

Silver appears very white & cupro-nickel appears very dull grey.

Yes, CuNi coins are in BU sets. The question was about proof version and proof is only in silver.

Bertrand catalogue has separetly normal finish and proof finish big 1 dollar coins (small dollars are separte section too).

I missed the word Proof in your post. Sorry.

I missed the word Proof in your post. Sorry.

All good! People were saying that the white look would suggest silver too, which I figure.
