Help with Diamond Shape Pitting?

3 posts • viewed 59 times

Hi. I’ve got this 1972-P Kennedy Half Dollar with random diamond shaped pitting or holes.  It seems the high points are most affected. And the low fields are mostly unaffected.

It’s probably lost value. But could this be a manufacturing error? And would that add value?
Possible also it’s damaged in circulation and has no special value. Damaged mechanically, etc.

But it just seems interesting.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe someone used it to tried out their new hardness tester.

I thought the same thing but who would bypass the flat surfaces for the raised uneven details and the rim? That's just silly.  Regardless, obviously PMD.
