Coin mold identification [solved]

8 posts • viewed 90 times

Hello everyone!

I have a coin mold made of clay that needs identification (the coin itself, not the mold).

My guess is greek or macedonian since the language looks like it, could be something else though.

Diameter is around 20 mm as it’s very hard to measure correctly, sadly i can’t specify any other measurements, though I would guess the coin would be made of copper.

Also huge thanks to @E. Timmermans for making the reversed images in the additions to your collection thread!

:)

I think it's Kushan. On the side of the horseman, there is a sign or character that is preset on a lot of Kushan coins.

These are kind of similar: https://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=24122

Thanks, they seem like the right type, but I’m having a hard time finding an exact match.

The figure standing up seems to be pointing the other direction to all of the coins on zeno?

Maybe it is Indo-Parthian and has that symbol in front of the horse.

Yes, I agree, Indo-Parthian coins are looking much closer.
I found this one on Zeno, which is quite close: https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=126933, even part of the lettering, below the horse matches. Also the size fits too (22 mm).

That seems correct, thank you very much!

Now I just need to get my hands on one :)

Did a bit more looking and found one even closer in size, the details are also all correct.  https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=67570

That mystery was solved pretty quickly, nice!

Just an add-on: I've found the coin in the Numista calalog: N#82402 .
