different trials? what do I even have here?

I got recently one “similar” locally basically as junk silver for far far less than the one-bid auction (link below), but the quality is also far poorer (has several obvious defects or holes: 1st picture bottom corner on the lint there is one; 2nd picture there is another in right bottom corner near the crossed sticks or sceptres or whatever those things are meant to be; and several smaller ones ) than on the auction video under the coin – https://one.bid/en/coins-klipa-10-zloty-1934-pilsudski-strzelecki/2350302

Comparing the details, the circular border around the head on mine is kind of "round" on vertical also, whereas on the picture in numista, it seems a bit wider and has clear sharp “square” edges.

Weight on the numista page is 40g vs on the above auction was 38.9g and mine is 32.2g.

Also my version dimensions without calipers is 46.5 x 46.5mm compared to the page 47.5x47.5mm.

It does pass the magnet test (so it's not steel or nickel and slides slower like silver or copper would), but that's about all I can do at home…

Other trials in numista have far different dimensions and weight … and don't have pictures at all.

Is mine some weird replica or counterfeit or different trial version or what it even is?

Or the randomness might have something to do with the “Klippe” minting technique which sounds rather unprecise and prone to error?

How did you come by yours? I have to say I don't like the look of it.

The Numista rarity index for a rare pattern with a mintage of 300 is also suspicious so others might also have the same as yours and I suspect a copy.

Bought from local “everything” auction place (craigslist or ebay like thing, but small and local). Among other actual legit coins, several with some environmental damage, and saw at least one more trial coin (which I didn't win – didn't even want to win tbh because of the condition, and mint count was also supposedly 10000, so not that rare).

But I agree that the rarity 93 with only 300 supposedly in existance is rather suspicious. I suspect there is some other version of it out there with far higher mint count, legit or "fake" is up to debate, but since in numista there is only 1 available “square” coin of this look, everyone just lists it under there… 🙃

Isnt 93 nri like 2 or 3 members in Numista have it? 100 nri = no member, 96 = 1 member. So the OP plus one or two other member/s own one - plus even on the coin page there are 2 for sale. I know that for some reason, Polish probe and trial coins are quite often on the market - I think maybe the mint or polish bank sell some of them instead of hoarding them or having them destroyed, so having 2 or 3 members owning one, and 2 obvious sales doesn’t seem suspicious to me.

„If your reply or post in the Forum stinks of AI, I will call you out! Knowledge comes from experience, the I in AI stands for incompetence.“

And does it even exist a “real” square coin or the square version was only limited to trial strikes? which they didn't like and went with round one in the end?

It might be normal yes. 93 nri I think Should be closer to 5 or 6 owning it 95 if I recall is 3 people owning it, there are tons of Probe coins in Poland but the majority is quite affordable made for collectors, these earlier ones are more scarce with auction prices around 4000 to 9000 € I found roughly 35 of these sold at auctions in the past 15 years, additionally 2 which sold at much lower prices but had 47mm size and weight pretty much same as yours. One indicated cast silver and the other mentioned Copper-Nickel.

Best would be to check in a book specializing in Polish pattern coins to see if other versions have been made or possible some restrikes made at a later date from original dies.

High value items on Numista usually have not that many people owning them, exceptions exist but these also exist for items where fakes are known.

An example of such a coin is this one

a coin with a value of around 170 000 € yet a Numista rarity of 79

N#240901

Above example is different as its probably people having a fake or having misattributed the coin.
