Small Date Large Date 1970 S

Hello, 

I have stared at these and the example above until I am certifiably insane . 

Which is small date ? Which is the large date? or are they both the same?

My initial thought is the older looking coin (bottom) is a small date and the newer looking  one (top) is a large date, what say all of ye?

 Both have lower part of 7 and so are large date.
