Is this a known variant?

As I was adding my 1978 Costa Rica 1 Colon coin I noticed that the coat of arms banner “REPUBLICA DE COSTA RICA” looked more like “REPUBLLCA DE COSIA RICA” because there is a line connecting the letters BLICA and STA.  I don't see anything here that mentions this difference.  Is it a variant?

Compare your "I" to the other 2 “I” in the banner, and you'll see it's NOT an “I”.

Right.  I only meant that it looked like a capital I.  I know it is a T.

 

So has anyone else seen this?
