Another Straits Settlements coin question, this time for:
The 1905 date in this series is supposed to have a “B” mintmark somewhere on the coin. I can't find any mintmark on my example of this coin (though it is low grade, so a raised “B" could have been worn off).
As far as I can tell, there is no “B” mintmark on the crown (where it is located on the 5 cent, 10 cent and 20 cent King Edward VII Straits Settlements coins that are indicated to have a “B" mintmark on the coin).
This can be verified by examining in the image at the top of the Numista page for this coin series (which shows a 1905 dated coin with only a small amount of wear) - I do not see a raised or incuse “B” anywhere in the crown. Also, the last pictured auction coin on the N-15531 web page also shows a 1905 dated coin (condition is given as “AU”), and again, I don't see a “B” mintmark anywhere on the coin.
The 47th edition of the SCWC lists three types of coins for the 1905-B date:
1905 B raised
1905 B proof raised (rare)
1905 B proof incuse (rare)
The corresponding section of the Numista value table for this coin is somewhat different:
1905 B close “5” in date variety, mintage included above
1905 B raised
1905 B raised proof
Numista does not mention the incuse B variety that is listed in the SCWC. Also, the mintage for this coin in the Numista value table is given in the “1905 B raised” line, so the first line for the 1905 B coin should read: “mintage included below”, not “mintage given above”.
Does anyone have a 1905 Straits Settlements 50 cents coin with a “B” mintmark on the coin? If so, is the “B” raised or incuse, and where on the coin is it located?
