I started collecting around 1.5-2 years ago and my collection is now very close to the 1,000 different coin mark with 994.  I have some nice Tuvalu and Solomon Islands coins on the way which will push me over the mark.

Can't wait to see which coin will push me over, It'll get a special place in my album.  Rough count is about 175 silver coins.

My latest entries this week: 1943 Fiji 6d, 1897 South Africa 3d, 1896 South Africa 6d and San Marino 1935 5c.

Any milestones anyone else want to share?

Two that I shall be going over very soon and one that I just went over.
I've almost got 3000 different coins (only from first year of mintage).
And more than 500 different banknotes.
In 2 years and a half.
:wiz:
My coin guy just called me to say he had a 1.5 kilo lot that "has possibilities".  That should help my count some.
And then the bragging of different collectors begins...

Just kidding. But just saying, after some 3 years of collecting, I've amassed 4000 coins, half of them being considerably rare.

What do you deem to be considerably rare?

A lot of mine are pacific islands coins that have pretty low mintages but are relatively easy to get hold of.  I do have some real crackers though, a lot of my silver coins and the early Fiji stuff are really decent.
Like that: Fiji and silver.

Reminds me of a coin in my collection: a key-date in UNC from Fiji from the 70's. It's somewhere deep in my collection, but I thought that 75c was a steal for a coin like that. Every coin has a story.

Typically when I buy coins they're either bulk lots (like $5 for some several hundred Hungarian and Romanian coins), or rare and silver coins on eBay (like... a lot of stuff in my collection!). My collection isn't that great compared to you guys though. I don't have many large silvers at all- just small ones along with several. Some of them are pretty rare, but they're small.

I also buy stamps, and I weed out most stamps after the 60's (except engraved stamps because they are awesome), and I think that my stamps compared to my collection in terms of rarity is much higher. Nevertheless, both coin and stamp collections are very unique.

Thanks Mark, I've got the spare Solomon Islands and Tuvalu coins in my swap list now if you want to add them to our swap.
Hooray, that bag of coins pushed me up to 1115 different coins.
For a brief but terrible moment I thought you meant 1,000 forum posts.

No, we're not going to revisit that beast.  Although I'm creeping close to that mark.

I was pleased with the lot I bought.  Got it for NZ$45 for 1.5 kilos of coins.  I picked up a 1957 Netherlands gulden, 1947 Curacao 1/4 Gulden, 1941 South African 3d, 3 1943S war nickels, 1953 Sweden 10 Ore and a 1926 Indian 2 annas silver coins.

Then in the copper I got a worn but legible 1806 George III penny, 1826 George IV halfpenny, some nice Victorian pennies and halfpennies, a nice 1800s 1/4 anna from India, 3 x pre-1900 10 centimes coins from france, some early USA pennies, some nice WW1-WW2 German 2, 5, 10 and 25 pfennigs, some early Denmark, Sweden and Norway coins and plenty of other goodies.  With still about 1 kilo left to flick on.

Added a bunch of different types today. Now if I could just find the time and muster up the effort to catalog my state quarters... :°
