I'm not sure when this change was made, but why are merchant tokens now a sub-category of "Emergency coinage"? I realise that the type field has become a real problem for Numista, as it attempts to combine several different pieces of information (always a bad idea for a database) but this change seems particularly unhelpful. Was some justification given before the change was implemented?

Thanks. It seems there was no justification for this, then, just a claim that merchant tokens were produced “to supply coinage during a period of coin shortage”. What caused this thread was the disappearance of merchant tokens from my default search. They had to be added as a new selection under “Emergency coinage”. Did this change recently?

Either way, now that we've started to separate out the different pieces of information stored within “Type” by use of the "issued/not issued" field, we really need to come up with a more logical system.
