Counting total number of "groups" and countries and territories with coins

If anyone else wants to know how many  “groups” Numista has that have at least one coin (excluding patterns, fantasy coins, medals, tokens), this is my count:

Total Groups (as reported by Numista) =  480.

This includes:

1. Countries and territories:  241 -  but this includes 7 with no coins, so only 234 with coins.
2. Modern states with limited recognition: 9 - but this includes 3 with no coins, so only 6

3. Ancient and early medieval polities: 40

4. Micronations: 56 - but this includes 51 with no coins, so only 5.

5. Fantasy places: 134 - but none of this have coins, so 0.

Total Groups with Coins:  234+6+40+5=285.  This is the maximum number of groups you can have (among those with coins according to my definition)

Definition: I consider any item classified as coin in Numista except patterns (fantasy coins, medals, tokens are not classified as coins)

Countries and Territories with no coins :

  1. Central America, Greater Republic of
  2. Eurozone
  3. Gilbert and Ellice Islands
  4. Italian East Africa
  5. Leeward Islands
  6. Micronesia, Federated States of
  7. Oceania, Japanese occupation of

Modern States with limited recognition that have no coins:

  1. Kosovo
  2. Northern Cyprus
  3. Palestine

Micronations: only 5 of the 56 have coins: Christania, Hutt River, Lundy, Order of Malta, Seborga

Fantasy Places: none have coins (according to my definition)

Hope this is useful!!!

Eurozone now has one coin.  N#470894

Eurozone now has one coin.  N#470894

Well…it is debatable whether this should be classified as “standard circulation coin." And it was dumped into “Eurozone” because they were not able to identify the issuer…
Do you think this is enough to consider Eurozone as a "group"?

No but Numista doesn't explicitly define what a group is.  It depends on which listing is viewed.
