As none of you non-stalkers know, I was at the Gun and Knife Show for a good chunk of the day. With the modest budget of $48.00 + some change I was obviously not going to buy a gun. I also have too many knives than I need so that was not it either. No, I went for the "other collectables". These being coins, of course. Thanks to this show and a nice dealer who gave me a $5.00 discount on everything I now have the three coins featured below and a nice Guatemalan coin which was a pain to try to get a picture of. Notice the try which sadly means I failed.
Now go on, post your own. Just don't ruin the MPCC or anything.
I like the three colours - the coin is made of silver, and has black enamel to symbolise the eclipse, and the gold coating for the sun. Commemorates a total solar eclipse seen on 29 March 2006 from Turkey. That is myself holding it, and it comes in a plastic capsule, with authenticity certificate. Only 5,000 made, and I bought two of them, a few years apart. Still looking for more!
That one could do with a clean, but I will leave it as it is.

Finally, as I have a thing for silver coins with gold coating, here is one I hope to get soon ...
I saw an original 1931 coin for sale that has been re-silvered plus has gold added. Nice !

Here are a couple of different photos of my avatar image. Patina, age, beauty, real life circulation wear and NO evidence of wipes or cleaning. Success!
Here's one of my favorite silver coins that I own, and easily my rarest!
It's a 1336/2 (1919) Ottoman Empire 5 Kurush. Original mintage of 2,000 coins and graded MS 62 by NGC. I traded a prooflike United States 1970-D Kennedy Half Dollar for it.....I'd make that trade all day, every day!
I just wanted to say to everyone that your coins are very beautiful! I love seeing all of these excellent world coins. I think that I've finally found the coin community that I truly belong to!
This one was a gift from my girlfriend because I was born in Hejira 1400......but the 1980 part, not the 1979 part. But, in Egypt where this coin is from, that wouldn't matter :)
Some of the scans aren't accurate because my scanner has fingerprints on it. If you look at the 1964 dollar and 1966 dollar the finger prints on them are really on my scanner and not on the coins. All of these coins are better in hand then the scans let on.
Hi again 15 Turtles,
yes, the Hindenburg 2 mark is a proof! It's graded Proof 63 Ultra Cameo by NGC. I also have a Proof 60 Potsdam Church 2 RM as well. Also, I'd like to add, it's so much fun talking with a fellow collector who appreciates German coins! I'd love to see some of your treasures as well!
1939-A 2 reichsmark (Hindenburg)
1938-A 5 reichmark (Hindenburg)
both in EF-
I forgot how much I got these for... ^
I have a 4 pfennig in AU+ or UNC... around there 1932-D
^ I know it's not silver... but it's German.
Bundesrepublik issues
1974-J 5 mark (part of a set)
I just like the design, nothing else special
the München Olympic 10 mark (the spirally one...)
Again, design, nothing else
I keep forgetting which ones I had... dammit
Austrian
Mariazeil 25 schillings
Italy
1929R 5 lire in EF
1961 Unification 500 lire in EF-
1966r 500 lire in UNC (just a normal coins, but u gotta love the design)

Quote: MohawkAnd a post about silver for Mohawk wouldn't be complete without at least one Ottoman Mint Visit issue:
Hi Mohawk, I also have a focus on Ottoman coins as they were the circulation coins in Albania, where I am from for about 500 years So I far I have just 16 of them. Never had a chance to see with bare eyes a Mint Visit coin, from which Visit is this one you have? Just lazy to look on my pdf books :)
Very nice silver!! I love all of your coins, from all of the nations you have! And I know your feelings on homework........I'm in Graduate School for Historical Studies right now, and sometimes it really kicks my butt. I'll look forward to your pic when you get a chance to upload!
@lidianb
That coin is the 5 Kurush from Selanik ( Salonika). Which Ottoman issues do you personally have? I have a ton of different Ottoman issues ranging from the nickel 5 para up to some gold 100 Kurush. And, being Turkish on my father's side, I have some Ottoman heritage myself. It's cool that you are from Albania. Do you collect Albanian coins as well as the Ottoman issues? I ask because I'm an American, and I barely collect US coins. I'm more interested in the coins of my national heritage ( hence all the German and Turkish coins). As far as Mint Visit coins, I also have the 10 Kurush from Kosova, a 100 Kurush from Edirne and my recently purchased Bursa 5 Kurush should be arriving any day now.
well it seems only me didn't show some silver coins...After all those German and British kings, see some East coins For Mohawk, 3 of my silver Ottoman coins also in the picture. Here is very hard to find them in good grade as most were used for jewelry!
@ LidianB......your coins are very beautiful!! I love your Ottoman coins, particularly that 20 Kurush! Those are awesome coins. I wish I had more.....I only have one of those right now. I also really like your Italian and Albanian coins as well. Albania is a country I've thought about looking at as well. As you know well, there was a lot more to the Ottoman Empire than just Turkey and all of the nations that made it up have interesting and beautiful coins!
@neilithic and torontokuba
Yes, my coins are in NGC slabs. I participate in the NGC Registry in various Turkish, German and other World Pursuits....with a couple of US Sets in there. If you're going to have world coins graded, NGC is the only way to go. PCGS consistently overgrades world coins and ANACS is just all over the place with them......some they overgrade, some they undergrade ( good opportunites for sharp eyes ) and some they hit the nail right on the head.....it's truly amazing!
@neilithic.......I forgot to add, I photographed them myself The photos the grading companies take for you often leave a lot to be desired so I taught myself how to photograph coins.
Nice Ottoman stuff ! I love the portraits of other kings and queens, but I can't bring myself to buy any because I know I will end up collecting those too, and before I know it I'll be after every coin in the world ! What I collect now is more than enough to keep me going till I die like so I will make do with that ha
We do not get enough French coins on this side of the forum. Despite all the rim dings, I couldn't resist this 5 Francs Ceres at the height of the silver boom. It puts a smile on my face, whenever I dig it out...
Here also a French one recently purchased and probably one of my prettiest silver coins.

The below pictures are from Numista and not my actual coins photo which I am yet to take. But my coins are better grade than these photos showing
Of these KM 557 was so black, that I thought the coins is bloody useless one, then I had a doubt it could be silver and checked the Numista and found it true. Lucky I did not throw that away. All these were from my young days when we had these as play things from the attic. Somehow I had saved them. I also lost a lot of British India coins with hole in centre (copper) which I now understand is a very valuable thing.
Well, I think this one is going to make my list as one of the most beautiful. Keep in mind, it is extremely difficult to get the lower denomination silver coins in decent shape, not to mention uncleaned. The mintage and appearance of this one speaks for itself...
These are quite a few of my silver coins, the pictures don't do them justice because I am not a professional photographer and my camera is not great. Anyways, I hope you enjoy them.
