Hey all,

Can Philippine error coin varieties that are officially recognized be included with the minted coin (if it's noted with the official Allen variety number)?

I noticed there are some error varieties that have been added such as mule coins and mint marks. In addition, you can also add such coins to your Numista collection.  I wanted to check before going down this rabbit hole. As there has been some previous discussion about generally adding (unofficial?) error coins to the Numista catalogue. I would say U.S./Philippines errors varieties are a unique and special case when you consider the amount of research done by Lyman Allen in this Numismatic field.

For example:  Philippines 1918 S centavo is repeated twice and includes a comment about the large "S"; variant

N#6696

Large S variant is not an error. However, if you search for “error” in the coin catalog you'll find many error coins such as these fro Australia:

And, of course, the US errors such as wrong planchet pennies.  I don't know where the line is drawn.

KM recognizes the large and small S variants.

How many vaiants does Allen have for the 1 Centavo KM-163 that are not currently in our listing?

We have some parts of the Numista catalog where we have followed catalogs that include many die variants, and they are not useful unless someone has invested the time to upload photographic documentation and a description indicating what is different about the variant.  Without this, we get constant questions from collectors on which variant they have, and frustration if they cannot be answered.

Thanks for the follow-up. I collect u.s/ phillippines coin age including varieties. I incorrectly stated errors. I would be happy to do the leg work and add some recognized allen varieties.

As tdziemia said. If well documented, variants can be mentioned in the comments.
