Hello everyone, I have been around collecting various US coins for the last 5-10 years and normally I would mark them as owned in a spreadsheet and drop them into a large coin jar. Recently Ive been wanting to look through them a little more often and I've been trying to find binder solutions to store in 2x2 coin cards.
My collection can roughly be described as 1 of each coin from each year and each mint. for my cases this is usually just Philadelphia and Denver as I'm not super interested in proofs.
My worry is the sheer volume that is going to take up so I am curious what you all think about a few options I've been mulling over in my head.
1. Have a Philadelphia book and a separate Denver and Philadelphia books, then listed by year and design 2. Combine Denver and Philadelphia and list by year and design. 3. Split granularly in small binders, Denver Quarters, Philadelphia Quarters, Denver Dimes, Philadelphia Dimes etc.
What do you all do to store your coins? Any insights on what works and wont work?
The Brazilian coins that I collect by year are organized by year and design, but mine is a totally different situation: it's just a 60 years period, only one mint house and several currencies. In your context, I believe options 1 or 3 are better. I don't know how much coins gonna be in that collection, but I imagine that it would be more than a single binder could bear.

I have over 200 coins in my collection, so I may start with 1 book for pennies, 1 for dimes, one for quarters etc, both mints in the same book. Later on if it gets too chaotic, Ill split down farther.
Coin albums are perfect for that. You can easily review your collection, see what is missing, and add to it. Visit a nearby coin dealer, and I believe they will offer you some excellent options.
200 coins is nothing so you still have time to experiment and decide what storage solution suits you best without breaking the bank.
Right now I have all the coins I want to keep in one 3 ring binder, but its like 8 pounds and kind of a pain to find things quickly. I am also noticing that the bottom of the pages curl from the weight and the tops of the pages stretch out a little. Have you any experience with this? Should I be looking for binders with the flat leading edge on the rings?

My first binder had 3 rings and that happened to me as well. Now I have a 4 ring binders and that's all okay for my collection with almost 400 coins.

You can start with a single binder for that amount of coins but separately organizing them. I lack the proper English to explain that, but like if you have 30 dimes and 10 quarters, first and second pages with dimes and third page with quarters, even if there is space in second page. Then when collection grows, you just move pages to new binders instead moving coins from spaces

Thank you for your insight. I may do many smaller binders, For example Pennies go in Binder A, Nickels go in Binder B, Dimes in C etc. Though I may wait a bit until my collection gets a little larger before I start moving too many things around.
2x2 will take a lot more space as these sheets. For me a perfect solution as i collect world by date, and most of my coins come out bulk lots i buy per kilogram.. Also reorganizing the collection is much easier with these slides..
Worldcoin collector by date & variety.. (Always on the search for Doubled dies)

This is how I am currently storing my coin collection. I am sorting by year and mint mark, leaving spots for missing years or missing mint marks. Though I do want to start transferring to 2x2 flips to further protect the coin and make it easier so I can write the date on the outside and not have to squint so hard.
I started collecting with the introduction of the Euro, and the coins still looks the same as i put them away 23 years ago.. But that's maybe also the climate overhere and the room where the coins are stored.. I keep track with Excel sheets.

I do the same with a slightly different spreadsheet layout. I like to keep notes on when I found it, what I paid for it, what its face value is, and what its estimated value is. Data is cool and eventually Ill graph out my finds by year and type just for funsies.

Manufacturer is Leuchtturm
Thank you. It appears as though I am unable to find those here in the states. A few on eBay but only used condition.
