Map Correction

I'm trying to bring to attention a coin that appears to not appropriately fill in the map.  The 1972 500 Francs CFA from the Western African States (N#19027).  This coin shows that Mauritania is one of the member countries in the Monetary Union, but when the coin is added to my database, Mauritania does not fill in on the map like the other member countries do.

Thank you for your time to evaluate this request.

Michael

Coin literally  says “ Mauritania” on it.  Definitely should count.

The map shows the current extent of the member states as Mauritania left the Union in 1973. The map does not (yet) have the option to shows historical borders.

Several suggestions already made in the past, but very complicated: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic49599.html

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Surely that one coin can count.

If the borders are extended we would get complaints about every post 1973 CFA coin colouring Mauritania on the map. No no change just because of one coin I´m afraid :-(

Without  the change completing  a silver coin for each nation collection  becomes impossible.

Hi BramVB.  While I understand what you are saying, I also think there should be some way to account for this.  For instance, a coin from the Ottoman Empire fills in lots of countries on the map, and I'm pretty sure all of them have left the Ottoman Empire.  While I get that the Monetary Union had different members at different times, it doesn't change that Mauritania was a member when that coin was issued.

Michael

I concur.  The Russian empire does something similar.

While Ottoman Empire is a defunct “country”, the Monetary Union is still active and issuing coins.

EDIT: Russian Empire is also defunct, there will be no more coins issued there …

Feel free to work out a solution that would work for all countries/issuers.

The best one is to have borders for every issuer at every point of time, but as these are not available a perfect solution seems to be impossible at this time.

Seems Scottsdale mint needs to visit Mauritania  next haha

Compare with French West Africa  (1895-1958) now a defunct “country” whose coins color these current countries:

Do they have silver issues, by chance?

Mauritania withdrew in 1973, year after that coin was issued.

If I would add it to the map, it would show incorrectly for most of other coins from the issuer. :(

My question  is, why not create a new category( this specific  coin) then put that one time special category  on the map as being part of Mauritania.  It really cannot be that difficult  to code, can it?
