Got scammed again. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
I bought a Barber half dollar for $35.00. Found out it's cast.
So, I drilled a hole in it.

Did you report this to ebay and demand a refund?
Yes, I reported it. The seller requested a return for a refund. I reported this seller for selling counterfeit coins. They came back with no issue. I'm not sending it back.
Quite right to drill it. This sort of thing needs to be stamped on.
If you have any problems getting your refund, I would suggest you contact ebay customer service, by requesting a call from them - best to contact them between 09:00 and 16:00 GMT and you will likely get their Dublin call centre. I have always found them excellent and very professional.
I would also report this to the authorities, as it is technically not only fraud, but selling counterfeit US currency (allmost all US coins are still legal tender, even if the metal value is far exceeding the face value). If the seller is based in the US (or ever plans on travelling there), this will result in consequences for him…
I believe the agency responsible would be ultimately the Secret Service, but I think reporting to the police will also do the trick.
Definitely report it to the police.
Got had with a Morgan dollar a couple years ago. Returned it to the seller no issues. It was a cheap Chinese fake and not a convincing one at that. What was striking about this though was the fact the seller was a silver bullion and coin seller with seemingly legit bullion and coins listed alongside antique coins so surely they know what silver looks and more importantly sounds like. I'd like to think honest mistake but not so convinced when its someone who should have a knowledge of what silver sounds like as I say.

Interesting indeed. Anyone familiar with silver coins ought to know a silver coin.
Trust has to be earned.

Indeed. Think the return had no issues because there was a return address on the envelope within 30 minutes drive from me. Not smart if it was a scam 🤣 . My latest was buying 3 separate lots of regular coins from a new seller with no feedback and then the seller was no longer registered a day after the buy. Immediately thought scam so I thought i'l wait before opening a case. To my surprise I received 2 envelopes with the coins in question but both had half of the lots give or take from what was in the photo. Third lot never arrived. This seller was 20 minutes away according to ebay but no return address on parcels…..can't really complain on that 1 though as I got full refunds from Ebay as I couldn't contact the seller and got free coins basically. It was half a scam from their end basically. (I did explain to Ebay that I had received coins but not everything shown in photos).
Yeah, there are some horrible scammers. They don't even seem to try to make it look real. 2011allianceonlinestore is the worst one yet. Every time someone buys something then finds out that its fake, the seller takes the listing down. https://www.ebay.com/str/2011allianceonlinestore?_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211
I've just noticed there are now Chinese websites selling HA HA HA silver coins ( base metals and or silver coated) listed as silver and with 999.99 silver stamped on them. Will they ever stop conning everyone with fraudulent copycat stuff. Add to that some other reputable sites I won't name are selling replica old coins and unless you look carefully it's easy to get caught . Let the buyer beware.
I went though a period of reporting loads of counterfeit coins to eBay.de, they never did anything about any of the reports - they simply don’t care and if they do it is too expensive for their business model to enforce it. At best they might take down some coins or restrict an account from selling if they get enough reports, but these people will pop back up under a different name and nothing but time has been wasted.
I don’t mind too much about people and Shops that are obviously selling fakes as they won’t get my business, it is the people who sell other items and sneak in the fake coins once in a while that annoy me the most, or they add the fake coins to a lot of real coins and are willing to take the item (every coin back), eBay just doesn’t understand how scammers work and thus are incapable of doing anything about it. Or to put it another way eBay (and companies in general) are just legal scammers who work within the crap laws that only protect the rich and fa€& the poor the world over!
