"Splash" minting technique

3 posts • viewed 72 times

There is a new IOM coin minted by Tower Mint with special technicque “Splash striking” - see here.

Anyone know something more about this kind of techniche? Should it be created new technique in Numista? Or this is just marketing from the distributor?

These two Canadian coins were produced by splash strike technique.

20 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Ogygopsis) - Canada – Numista

20 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Ornithomimus) - Canada – Numista

Here's a video about the one.  Near as I can tell it doesn't use a collar in the press.

The Mint released its first-ever splash-struck coin in 2017 and selected Canada’s prehistoric past as the coin’s subject. Learn more about this ancient coin-making technique while uncovering more about dinosaurs: http://bit.ly/2BIQH1j | Royal Canadian Mint / Monnaie royale canadienne | Facebook

Thanks!

Ok, so anyway, this is a milled coin.
