1923 Dominion of Canada $1

Hello fellow numismatists,

I am wondering if anyone has seen in person and/or owns a purple seal 1923 Dominion of Canada $1. From what I can tell, it is the hardest seal color to come by. I myself have all the colors other than purple currently, though my green seal version isn't the highest quality (watching an upgrade for this currently lol).
Again, I'm just curious if anyone has seen or owns a purple seal version.

If anyone has any other information on the purple seals or if the different seal colors have any meaning, I would love to learn more.

Thanks, everyone!

Re: 1923 Dominion of Canada $1.00 notes DC-25 or P-33

I may have seen one or two over the course of 40 years of collecting (but not sure). The reason is that I made a commitment to collect Bank of Canada notes (not Dominion of Canada) so they were always beyond my budget & I have seen a lot of rare notes.  In the case of the DC-25 k (or l) I likely would have thought “wonderful, if only I had that kind of budget.”

Here's a picture of the note in question:

You can find out more info on these scarce “purple seals” on the Canadian Paper Money Forum but you must register in order to access the section called “The Notes” which has registers of tough series such as this variety. I can say that I just checked the register now and they have 123 registered notes for DC-25k (McCavour Saunders pictured) & only 47 of the DC-25l (Campbell Saunders) variety.

Hope that answers some of your questions & I highly recommend you register for use of the registers.

gives you close to a dozen (which is not very many) and, as you can see, low grade ones are in the hundreds of dollars…
