Cob coin, fragment?

3 posts • viewed 59 times

Dear numismatic friends,

I came along this irregular coin. It may be a cob coin, because of its irregular shape, or only a cut piece of a cob coin. However,  I did not succeed in identifying the coin more precisely. I would appreciate any help - suggestion.

The weight is 3.7g and it´s size about 15 - 17mm. The date seems to be 1636.

Everything on the coin suggests it is fake.

Everything is too clear for a hammered coin; also, the shape is not cob

But that is my opinion

I primarily salvaged cob coins and pillar dollars and silver schillings and riders, even they look a lot better and authentic in their worst state than this perfect coin

Hello Hermann,

Thank you for your return and your opinion.

I already suspected something like this.
