RARE pictures of then-planned 2½ lira + other coins from 1957!

Looking on the newspaper archives I came across this incredible bulletin.
I have no idea if these are actual probe coins or just design blanks, but it's interesting to see the date 1957 on coins that weren't released yet. Only the 1 lira coins were released, but the rest were in evaluation still - and infact they were planning to make the 25kr and the 2½ lira coins out of cupronickel just like the 1 lira coin, according to the bulletin.
Again, not sure if these are design planchets or coins, but again - it's very interesting, hopefully I posted this on the correct forum topic 😅

here's the picture of just the coins - decided to not put the 1, 5 kuruş coins' pics bc the date wasn't visible from the quality; and the 1 lira since it exists 😅

Absolutely fascinating! Turkish coins are very interesting, and what could have been is even more interesting! Thanks for sharing this!

you're welcome !! i came across it when i was looking through newspaper archives and such, trying to find the full release date of Turkish coins)
and well yeah it's surprising considering the fact that Turkey used to postpone their releases of coins, it happened a couple of times already - for example the 2½ lira coins were first mentioned in late 1956 but they didn't release till 26. 08. 1960…
then the failed release of 20 lira coins in 1981, these coins existed ofc in ‘84 and there is the FAO one from 1981 but they were planning to do some for general circulation which didn’t happen, same went for the 50 and 100 lira coins, planned to be released during 1982-83 but only came into circulation from 2. 1. 84.
we even had 100 000 lira coins, they were apparently planned to be released in 1996 alongside the 50 000 but it got postponed a couple of times up until 10.2.1999. when they actually issued them (there was even the supposed design for it, but then they made completely different ones by 1999 - bulletin from 5. 7. 1996.)

so yeah, interesting stuff indeed:)
