Help Identifying a Victoria Medal or Coin – 1873 / 1860

Hello everyone,

I recently acquired this piece and I am not sure whether it is a coin, a medal, or perhaps a token.

• Obverse shows a bust of Queen Victoria with the legend “VICTORIA DEI GRATIA” and the date 1873.

• Reverse also shows a bust of Victoria, but with a different style, and the legend is inverted or appears different (possibly “VICTORIA REGINA”, though partly worn).

• Diameter: approx. 25 mm.

• The flan seems brass or bronze, with quite a bit of wear and some irregularities.

It looks unusual because both sides feature a portrait of Victoria, with different engravings and possibly mismatched dies (one side dated 1860, the other 1873).

Does anyone know if this is:

– a medal or jeton,

– a contemporary counterfeit,

– or perhaps a fantasy/commemorative piece?

Any help or references would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

Looks like somebody used one coin/medal to impress its image into the other. Notice how it's a mirror image?

Where do you see an 1860 date?
