Don’t know what happened here??

I’m not sure what’s happened here haha found this with my other ½ pennies, my first response was PMD but 

the indentations seem odd and not normal for wear and tear? Ive never seen this kind of PMD and the reverse is fine?

People do strange things with coins, for reasons they only know. It is not regular wear & tear, but still PMD.

Thanks isn’t it strange that theres few scratches. Also the reverse is not scratched and some letters look punched  in the R on Gratia. If this was purposely damaged surely the reverse would be scratched? Could it not be something punched over by mistake? 

Just someone banging away with a small mallet or something. I see marks on the reverse, probably where the dents are on the obverse.
