Hello,

I came across this amazing website:

 https://www.oldmapsonline.org/

It shows maps from different  with rulers — really nice!

Just an IDEA ,

Do you think numista can collaborate with them  to  be integrated with our maps? And maybe numista coins would be integrated in their site in return  That would be amazing…

A very nice find :)

Edit: I have been looking through this. Lots of maps of various ages. The sections on Ireland and Poland look good.

However, they are selling prints of the maps! So It think that they may not necessarily be inclined to lend their maps for free.

This could be a decent alternative: http://geacron.com/home-en/

Yes indeed, I already knew about GeaCron from a previous post on the forum. From what I understand (and I might be wrong 😅), OldMaps works more like a catalogue of historical maps gathered from different institutions (called “Partners” on their site).

What’s interesting though is that OldMaps seems to be building more of a community that’s open to enhancements. They’re trying to connect rulers, battles, and important figures to their maps via Wikipedia links.

That got me thinking — maybe Numista could actually collaborate with them, instead of just using their maps. Both sides could benefit: imagine if they had another tab alongside “Rulers” but for Coins, linking directly to Numista. It would enrich their maps, and in return we could integrate their maps here on Numista.

Just an idea… 🙂

Thank you for sharing about https://www.oldmapsonline.org/

I didn't know about it and it's a fantastic resource.

I'm not sure how Numista could be integrated in their maps. I don't think it would make sense to show coins directly on the map, like they do for people and battles.

Coins are actually associated to 2 locations: the issuer and the mint. Issuers are similar to the “Regions” which they already have. Are you suggesting showing mints from the Numista database as a 5th tab after “Regions”, “Rulers”, “People” and “Battle”?

We could also think about showing coin hoards and findspots, but we have very few hoard data on Numista for the moment.

I'm not sure I understand either you suggestion do integrate their maps on Numista. Do you mean showing the maps on the search results page of coins of an issuer? Or on the collection dashboard? How would it look like?
