Identification request – Polish-Lithuanian 6 Groschen [solved]

7 posts • viewed 65 times

The coin appears to be 1662 AT.

According to the following page [N#168272], the type seems to match, but I could not find an AT mint mark for 1662.

Does anyone have any information on this coin?

 It does exist

Would you like to make a request to change the page or shall I?

Edit - as per the reply below a change request has now been made.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Thank you very much for finding this!

Since I don’t have much knowledge about Western coins, it would be great if you could create the line.

This  one is a difficult identification because 1662 AT exists for both the Bydgoszcz mint and the Krakow mint, according to most recent attributions.

The type with an inner circle on both sides like yours is indeed Bydgoszsz: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=10999489

If missing the inner circle on either side (or both) it is attributed as Krakow (the bust design is also different):  https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=12829055

So, yes, we should add 1662 AT for Bysgoszcz.

Thank you for the useful additional information! I had mistakenly thought it was Kraków.

I checked a similar coin in Kopicki (Kop.), which is frequently cited on the Numista page for this coin.

Could this be the correct match? The shield design is little different, though.

My understanding is that yes, your coin would be attributed as Kop. 1662.

For 1662 AT it is very confusing, with many varieties struck across three mints (Bydgoszcz, Krackow, Lviv).  There is a newer catalog, Ciura, which has improved on Kopicki in attributing these, but not all of the auction houses are using it.

Then, I would like to submit a request to have it classified as Kop 1662.

Thank you for informing me about the Ciura catalog. I will be sure to refer to it!
