Found this small bronze coin near Silifke/Gülnar, Turkey (ancient Cilicia region). Need help identifying!
Details:
- Size: Very small, approximately 15-17mm diameter (smaller than a dime)
- Material: Bronze, appears quite old and worn
- Location found: Silifke/Gülnar area, Turkey (historically part of Cilicia)
- Estimated age: Medieval period, possibly 4th-14th century
Visible features:
- Obverse inscription: Can clearly read letters M E L ? M P around the top (middle letter unclear)
- Central figure: Seated royal/imperial figure wearing crown/hat, holding what appears to be a staff or scepter
- Style: Typical medieval Byzantine or Armenian Cilician design
- Condition: Well-worn but main features still visible
