Large Korean medal

Hello, can anyone tell me something about the origin of this medal? It's about 3 inches in diameter, it looks fairly new, and reads ‘NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA’.

A friend gifted it to me with little explanation except that it is neat and I'm welcome to have the medal for myself. My question is where did it come from - a gift shop; a recent political summit in Korea?
