I'm fairly new and was wondering if we can get an FAQ for how to use the “i wish to get this coin function”. I spent 45 minutes searching. If it is documented (or any other little things like this) please tell me where to go!

I don't think there is an explicit entry for that (which probably should be).
But many things on the ‘My wishes’ page are self-explanatory to a degree.
In the ‘Settings’ you can select sets from a Venn diagram:
A - the coins/banknotes I'm missing or those in my wish list but not those in the list of coins/banknotes I don't wish
B - the coins/banknotes which I'm missing and which are in my wish list, but not in the list of coins/banknotes I don't wish
C - the coins/banknotes in my wish list but not those in the list of coins/banknotes I don't wish
D - all the coins/banknotes I'm missing
This and other settings are the foundation of the calculation you see on others profiles and they see on yours
but these are only types not individual years variants (I think), for that you have to go deeper into their swap list and filters
Then you can define them a bit more in the next 3 steps:
1 - what types of collectibles interest you
2 - you can manually select stuff you want or don't want on cataog pages directly and can get a list of them there
3 - You can set a criterion (it's like a search) and mark anything that would appear in it automatically as wanted or not wanted
an example for a don't wish criterion - every coin subtyp that is not ‘standard circulation coins, circulating commemorative coins’ if you are only interested in circulation type coins
