Could we put literature series inside series? Or separate "edition" from series? [solved]

In the literature section there is a series for Kurt Jaeger books about pre-1871 coins.

Inside the series are these two books:

Die neueren Münzprägungen der deutschen Staaten vor Einführung der Reichswährung / Band 5. Königreich Bayern, 1806-1871, mit Großherzogtum Berg, 1801-1808, und Würzburg, 1806-1815 (1957)

Die Münzprägungen der deutschen Staaten vom Ausgang des alten Reiches bis zur Einführung der Reichswährung / Band 5. Königreich Bayern, 1806-1871, Berg, 1801-1808, Würzburg, 1806-1815 (1968)

The two books cover the same set of coins with the same reference code for coins. (Often even the same pages.) But the 1957 book is Numisa reference code Jaeg 5 Bay and the 1968 isn't. It would be nice to say that the two books are different editions of the same work, but the “Part of” field is already used.

How can we connect these books together inside the series?

@Xavier  @apuking  can do that :-)

Do you recommend creating a Volume Group of Each Different Volume?

Such as in this example:

5. Königreich Bayern, 1806-1871, mit Großherzogtum Berg, 1801-1808, und Würzburg, 1806-1815

I would leave as is but we need better visibility in the Volume Group view of the different Volumes

Yes I would in order to apply the ref code correctly

We already have several of such groups of groups if I'm not wrong

Indeed, such as we have here.

I would need to check again on how to go on about that.

Hello,

I created sub-groups to gather the multiple editions of the volumes 1, 2, 5 and 9. The reference catalogues codes now point to these groups.

See https://en.numista.com/literature/volume_group.php?id=206

Feel free to add more editions of each volume and I'll create the other groups as needed.

Also, I was confused with the volume 6.
The 1959 edition has the volume title “Frankfurt, Hessen und Isenburg” and code “Jaeg 6 FHI”.

Whereas the 1971 edition has the volume title “Nordwestdeutschland” and code “Jaeg 6 NWD”.

It seems they cover different areas, so they should not be considered as different editions of the same volume. But why did the author give the same number to both?

Thank you.

The combination for volume 2 should be undone. As with volume 6 they cover different areas:

  • The 1954 covers Anhalt and Baden (Jaeg 2 AB).
  • The 1969 covers Baden, Frankfurt, Kurhessen, Hessen-Darmstadt, Hessen-Homburg (Jaeg 2 FH).

I suspect the author thought the new split was a better arrangement for the overall set and didn't fully appreciate the affect on people using different editions.

Thanks for the clarification. I removed the grouping for volume 2.
