Chinese coin identification help

8 posts • viewed 100 times

Hello, my girlfriend recently gave me this coin from her tip jar at working and I was looking for some help identifying the specifics on my coin. I have found very similar coins with the same characters on the front but none with the same characters on the back if I could get some help identifying it. Thank you!

Hello

Here it is

N#222976

No picture on the numista file

but some problem with the caracter so not sure that is a genuine coin

Can you add weight and diameter please

Very interesting, I don't have a great way of measuring diameter but hopefully this is enough to help.

The Harttill book says its 1.4 qian of weight, thats about 7 grams. So the weight is under the standard deviation.

And here an example of Fitzwilliam Museum.

According to this link:

The coin above matches the type 5 of the oxidation coating on these coins listed on the site. A kind of black lacquer, according to the direct translation of "黑漆古." Basically, the natural patina of well-preserved and stored coins.

Example on the chinese site.

Agree with you

But some of the area have no patina

And with the caracter problem it's too much

But that's my opinion

I'm not professionnal expert

I'm not an expert either, but for me, the patina type is the least of my concerns, as I've seen several genuine coins on trustworth auctions with patina similar to that.

The biggest questions about these coins are the weight/size and writing style. The weight is consistent with the DH catalog. But the writing its the thing to be analyzed.
