The widespread circulation and trusted silver content of Edwardian sterlings, particularly the penny, led to a vast number of imitations across Britain and continental Europe from the late 13th to 14th centuries.
These imitations, often called "continental sterlings" or "Edwardian imitations", were struck to closely resemble the official coins issued under Edward I, II, and III, mimicking both the obverse bust and the long cross reverse.
