Translated in English for those of us who don't speak Portuguese.
“Sousa Marques, Rua do Ouro: They insult customers and refuse to answer simple questions, especially if they're young or people they think they can insult. The store owner is incapable of handling a counter and is extremely rude”
via Google Translate, I don't speak Portuguese beyond Bom dia and a few coin and numeral based words.
I will avoid the Sousa Marques, Rua do Ouro on my next trip to Portugal. Thanks for the heads up.
Having gone there as of recent, I do not see where you got this interpretation. My experience was the opposite of what you described.
You were lucky then. My experience was awful. It looks like we have facing a kind of bipolarity personality concerting the owner. Just an advise: don't be too optimist next time.

So you just joined numista to be able to complain about a coin shop on the forum?
After consultation of google maps it turned out that I bought from this store in Lisbon a few years ago.
What I remember is very positive and I was able to close quite a few gaps in my Portugal and colonies collection
at probably a fair price (otherwise I would not have bought…).
Of course not knowing what exactly has happened recently, just to let you know…
Yes it seems that beef at a coin shop is a bad thing now. In this age of internet craziness, keeping good with your customers is a serious thing, being rude to them can spell the end of the shop.
Then again, its sounds like there is 2 sides to this coin, even the original poster (Who used Portuguese, a language very few of us outside the Lusaphone world would understand) may have gone in on a bad day, or this shop may be plagued by ninos who ask him to give them 5 euros for their X centavos coin from 1969 or something.
It would be good to hear what Sousa Marquez has to say about the story, because if I owned a coin shop and one person got disgruntled at me, the last thing I would need is someone bad mouthing me on a international site - that is being responded to by people in foreign languages.
well, basically some anonymous person pretends to have been at that shop and claims to have been treated badly. Nothing about when, how, what, etc. What is this coin shop supposed to say about that story? There is no story.
I had a quick look into their ratings at google etc. Not bad over all, many satisfied people.
Funny enough though, you can find one bad rating in google about that shop from July 10, written by a guy named “Rui F” with an extensive statement from that shop as reply. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. Easy to find, if someone happens to be interested…
In the end, when I am in a shop and am not happy about their service or whatever, I leave and do not buy there, rather than starting to argue with someone.
I really think people who join our forum just to moan about a coin store in a place that maybe 0.2% of all the members here will ever visit, should not be allowed to join, or have their posting privileges revoked.
Its unlikely the store would respond, but if someone did that to me and I had a shop, I would be getting ready to sue. I would want to see a video of the actual person in the store being an a$$ to the customer for proof. We are here to celebrate numismatics and expand knowledge, not some debased social media grudge fest.
Its an increasing ghettoising of our site. Keep the viral type memes and social media claptrap off our site.

I can understand the human urge to want to stand on a soap box and yell when it feels that someone has wronged you. In essence I suppose that's all these people are trying to do. This is the only place they could find an audience who might listen.
There really isn't need for posts like this, if the user joins and contributes then they should eventually find the outings section where coin shops are listed on the page and leave a proper review on the comments for that coin shop. No need for a forum thread.
