Is this a rupee of some sort?

Hello.

Can any one help with the identifying of this “coin”.

Thanks in advance.

I can't speak for authenticity and I can't see the mintmark but it is a piece from Badshah Shah Jahan of the Mughal Empire and the year is 1062-63 AH.

Similar: N#71726

Welcome to Numista!

The coin appears to show a date of 1062 (5 o'clock on second photo). I'm afraid I have some doubts about the authenticity. I haven't seen an Indian rupee with this kind of border before. There are some similarities with the cited coin, but they are far from a match. What are the weight and diameter? (These should always be reported with ID requests, please see guidelines.) A genuine silver rupee should weigh 10.8-11.5 grams.

Hi, and thanks for the input.

My apologies.

It weighs 11.43grams, and is approx. 25mm in diameter, and 2mm in thickness. I dont't possess a Micrometer.

I have limited knowledge and often use Numista to help identify coins. This is the first time I have had to ask, as  I usually find what I am looking for. I was't even  sure if it is a rupee.

I too have not been  able to find anything with this specific border.

Is it possible I'm looking in the wrong country?

Sadly it's not a coin but an lslamic token, probably 19th century or even later

Thankyou for that. Much appreciated.

I find the tokens, of which I have a few, as historically interesting  as the coins, so I'm pleased just to attain a little knowledge of it's purpose.

I agree that tokens are also worthwhile collecting and I have a few myself, usually they mimic coins of Akbar. There are books featuring these I believe
