This specimen from the period of Gaius Caligula from dated to 38-39 from Lugdunum/ Rome mint? Is often mistaken for RIC 1 5 in catalogs online or hard copies From numismatic houses?  This aureus on obverse legend is re-engraved ?  Look at the VS in GERMANICVS?  What should obverse legend read for RIC 20:  obverse is C CAESAR AVG GERMANICUS- here is the aberration- The VS in GermanicVS is re-engraved, my point is Why?  Reverse legend on RIC 1 20 helps with dating of 39-40 AD-  legend:  PM TR POT ITER. Translation on reverse is - high priest holder of tribunican power for the second time. Interesting variant that sold for over 13,000 dollars almost 30 years ago.  Joe Geranio- Julio Claudian Iconographic Association.
