Labels for Coins

6 posts • viewed 408 times

I don't know about any of my fellow coin collectors, but my least favorite part is trying to label my coins. I've used handwritten in the past, upgraded to a label maker, and now, I have found the most clean on I believe. I had found someone on Reddit who came up with a template for all to use, and I fell in love with how the labels looked on the coins. There are some tools needed:

-Printer

-Labels (2x2)

-Computer

-Publisher or a free similar application for customization

-Healing Mat

-Circular Compass Cutter

-Patience and Time

The flap label includes the country, the currency, and a flag. The original one had the KM numbers, but I'm not interested in having that info displayed in my collection.

I will provide a picture here soon, but I think a lot of my fellow collectors here might enjoy this. If interested, I can provide the link to the Redditt post, that you all can see the original. I have some templates as well.

Let me know what you guys think.

I myself use 160gsm paper (Light card) and print forme labels for my 2 x 2 plastic flips. Coin in one pocket, flip in other.

I have templates saved in word, then print pages of them and cut them into squares using my mini guillotine.

(Old labels cut before I got the guillotine)

An example here, I can change the titles to any countries and do the lines differently between republics and monarchies. Very basic and not of a mega professional standard, they at least look neat and add some order to the collection.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I have been working through this myself the past couple of months and I have a few methods that I have worked through.

I started with a basic label maker, but found the rolls of labels were too expensive and typing everything out on the label maker cumbersome.

I started using Avery return labels 5167, and made a template in Pages on my mac-book to label all my 2x2 cards that are in the boxes.  (I can make this template available to anyone who wants it.)  I download all the flag images from wikipedia by simply searching "flag of xxx"

For my zoo book with the help of the kids I've been gathering a short blurb about each animal and an image then I created a Photoshop template that just fits inside the 2x2 guardhouse flips.  I print them out and then cut them with a arts and crafts paper trimmer.

I'm still slowly working through my Zoo collection and if I can ever finish it, I'll probably eventually do the entire collection this way.    Also if anyone would like the PSD file for photoshop I have no problem sharing.

I am loving those labels for your Zoo Collection!!!

I have actually been creating some labels for my Australian Colonial/ Proclamation coins and my Victorian Gold Rush tokens in the past month-or-so, so I will show what I’ve got.

These labels were also made with a template I made up on Pages, which I can then change the relevant information for each coin. These labels are then cut to size and placed in their trays with the coin on top. Mine aren’t too fancy but I think they look fine for the most part. For the trade tokens, I have got the Renniks catalogue number and rarity number listed, as well as the name of the issuing business, location, and date.

It’s a little bit different for the convict era/ proclamation coins as they have the Numista reference number instead of the Renniks one but they are practically the same and use the same template.
