Just curious, a few weeks / months ago most coins had grey sheet listings when you double clicked on the date, now it's gone, is it for paying members only now? or is it gone for good?

Good catch.  I really liked the integration with Greysheet pricing.  I wonder what happened.

There have been changes about Greysheet cooperation - only @Xavier should share details if he wishes so.

I can confirm that nothing has been moved under Premium.

Thanks Jarcek.  I'm assuming that's it's a license renewal fee issue.  If so, I completely understand.  Things cost money.

I believe it was change from their side, not ours if I am not mistaken.

A subscription to Greysheet for an individual collector (lowest price) to see values is US $100/year. How many of those do they lose if you can get the same for free on Numista even for non-Numista members?

Now, that's a great question.  However, it turns out that Numista isn't the only place where you can access free Greysheet pricing.  I only know of 1 other source that provides free access:  the CAC Registry.  I'm of course referring to the 3rd Party Grading Company (CAC).  Anyone can create a free account over on the CAC Registry page here:  https://www.cacgrading.com/registry  and add their certified coins to a collection.  CAC will automatically pull Greysheet pricing on those certified coins for you for free.  It's really cool.  Again, only for certified coins and only ones that were certified by CAC themselves, NGC, or PCGS.    However, what makes Numista's integration much better is that we get Greysheet pricing for raw coins.  You can't get that on the CAC Registry.

I'm guessing that the reimbursement model for CAC's use of Greysheet is ad-driven much like it is for Numista.  But companies change their pricing model all the time.  So I wouldn't be surprised if one day all of a sudden if we lost any and all “free” access whatsoever.

Back to addressing your question, the paid subscription model you mentioned provides more access than we have (or had, as the case may be) on Numista.  I know that on the CAC Registry I can see Greysheet pricing for my certified Canadian coins.  I haven't seen this functionality turned on for Numista.  Having said that, the Greysheet pricing for Canadian coins is horribly incorrect.  But I'm not surprised because Greysheet's pricing is much stronger for U.S. coins.  That's where their greatest strength is.  For the paid subscription I believe that you also get access to some modern issues from China.  I haven't looked at how accurate those price estimates are since I don't collect those.

Of course you're right. A paid subscription gets you more and the more you pay the more you get.  For me my main interest is for values of my circulated US coins for all grades, mainly for information only, so the Numista free access is perfect.

As far as their model, just browsing what I can see as a non-subscriber the only ad I saw is this one so actually much less than Numista.

When I access my Collection portal on CAC (after having logged in) I do see additional ads at the top and bottom of the page.   However, this is when I access the portal from a web browser that is not using an ad-blocker.  If I log in and access the portal from a web browser that does have an ad-blocker turned on, I don't see as many ads.   Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if there is an additional compensation model in place behind the scenes.  Greysheet may have been one of the early investors in CAC when CAC first started their slabbing business and thus would give CAC special access to their pricing.  But that's just a guess and I'm not privy to their internal license agreements.

For anyone, including me, who has not heard of those initials

Thanks, ZacUK.  :-)   Apologies for the oversight.

Basically CAC is a 3rd party grading company located here in the United States that grades coins.  But they also sticker coins that were graded by certain other 3rd party grading  companies as a means of providing a second opinion (Reader's Digest version).  The founder of CAC is actually the founder of both PCGS and NGC as well.  But he left both companies and decided to start up another one with stricter standards (my own wording).  Both NGC and PCGS were resold (sometimes multiple times) to private equity firms.  I don't mean to editorialize, but PCGS and NGC aren't the same companies that they used to be and I'll leave it at that.   :-)

Hello,

Greysheet has kindly provided values of US coins on Numista for a couple of years. Although we are currently reviewing our collaboration, there is no immediate plan to discontinue showing the CPG values on Numista. However Greysheet is currently facing a technical issue and the API is currently unavailable.

Thanks Xavier for the update!

Greysheet values are back.
